Top five ghost photographs(Which is printed on Times.co.uk on march 27 2009))

From the brilliant Professor Richard Wiseman comes another great investigation into the supernatural. This time he has asked people to send him their ghost photos.
Wiseman's great contribution to the study of the supernatural - luck, fate, ghosts, telepathy and so forth - is that he gently investigates their truth rather than declaring himself a sceptic from the outset. This allows him to attract those who believe in the supernatural and enables him to seek a proper explanation.
One example was his superb experiment distributing lottery numbers to those who thought themselves unlucky and those who thought themselves lucky. He showed there was no difference in their objective quantities of luck.
There is room for those who simply challenge supernatural nonsense - the great magician James Randi with his offer of a million dollars to the person who shows special powers under scientific lab conditions is my favourite - but there is room for Wiseman too.
Here are five of the photos sent to Wiseman. Among the possible explanations - digital manipulation (though Wiseman has had the bottom photo examined and there is no sign), double exposure, dust on the lens, mirrors at odd angles.
